About the event
Explore poetry and create manifestos with author Antonia Maxwell. Antonia can offer individual class or small group workshops. Timings can be adjusted to suit schools' needs, please book morning or afternoon and we will be in touch.
How can climate fiction help us imagine and navigate towards a better future? In this creative writing workshop, we will discuss what climate fiction (cli-fi) is and how writers use storytelling to think about climate change, and the importance of hope in such stories. We will explore the idea of manifesting change, and discuss what a manifesto is. Students will write their own individual manifesto poems, based on places and things that give them joy, and using powerful repeating phrases such as 'I will...', 'I choose...' and 'I promise...' The session encourages hopeful thinking, creativity and reflection, with a focus on how small actions and strong voices can translate into action for the future.
Suitable for KS3
School events are provided free to local schools with Canterbury Children's Literature Festival covering the costs.
